Ó Ríordáin comes from the Gaelic “riogh”, meaning ‘royal’, and “bardán”, meaning poet. The clan originated in the areas of the modern counties Offaly and Tipperary. The clan subsequently migrated to west Co. Cork in the southern province of Munster. Today the name is one of the 100 most numerous in Ireland, and remains strongly associated with Co. Cork.

The hand knit Riordan sweater has a cable centre stitch flanked by zig-zag, braid and double diamond panels on either side. The cable represents good luck, the zig zag symbolises the ups and downs of marriage, and the diamond stitch is a wish for wealth. This beautiful Aran sweater has been hand knitted in the traditional báinín (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool. It comes to you complete with a clan history and crest. It is made of 100% pure new wool, is water repellent and breathable. It has been hand crafted in the traditional Irish style, and, with care, will last a lifetime.
