Mallon, Ó Maoileoin, Ó Maoldhomhnaigh.

The name Maloney is the Anglicisation of Ó Maoldhomhnaigh, which means ‘descendant of the servant of the church’. The sept was originally located in Tulla, Co. Clare, in the south west of Ireland. The clan had strong ties with the church, having two of their flock as successive Bishops of Killaloe. The name is now ranked at ninety seventh most numerous surname in Ireland, with its strongholds in counties Tipperary, Clare and Limerick.

The hand knit Maloney sweater has a central panel of moss filled diamonds with single rows of honeycomb and trellis stitches flanking it on either side. The diamonds represent a wish for wealth, moss stitch symbolises Nature and the trellis symbolises the small fields of the Aran Islands and represents success. This beautiful Aran sweater has been hand knitted in the traditional báinín (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool. It comes to you complete with a clan history and crest. It is made of 100% pure new wool, is water repellent and breathable. It has been hand crafted in the traditional Irish style, and, with care, will last a lifetime.
