The name Dillon can be of Norman or Irish origins. It is the Anglicisation of the Norman de Leon, and also of the Gaelic Ó Duilleáin. The Dillons have always played a prominent part in Irish history. The family once owned so much land in the counties of Longford, Westmeath and Kilkenny that they became known as Dillon’s Country. After the Williamite wars in the seventeenth century a number of the Dillon family served in the continental armies. The name is now widespread across the country, especially in counties Meath, Westmeath and Roscommon.

The hand knit Dillon sweater has a central trellis panel flanked by honeycomb, and link stitches. The trellis stitch symbolises the wish for success and the honeycomb stitch represents work. This beautiful Aran sweater has been hand knitted in the traditional báinín (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool. It comes to you complete with a clan history and crest. It is made of 100% pure new wool, is water repellent and breathable. It has been hand crafted in the traditional Irish style, and, with care, will last a lifetime.
