Mac Casey, O’ Casey, Ó Cathasaigh.

Ó Cathasaigh comes from “Cathasach”, meaning ‘vigilant in war’. There were several distinct septs of Ó Cathasaigh; in Dublin, Limerick, Cork, Mayo and Roscomon. Today, the name is ranked as 59th most numerous in Ireland, and is found predominantly in the southern province of Munster. One of the most famous bearers of the name was the Irish playwright Seán O’ Casey.

The hand knit Casey sweater has a moss filled diamond as a central panel, flanked by two cables and a honeycomb pattern on either side. The diamond stitch symbolises wealth, the cables symbolise a wish for good luck and honeycomb represents work. This beautiful Aran sweater has been hand knitted in the traditional báinín (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool. It comes to you complete with a clan history and crest. It is made of 100% pure new wool, is water repellent and breathable. It has been hand crafted in the traditional Irish style, and, with care, will last a lifetime.
