Hello, I'm not Irish myself, but I'm married to an Irish man. I am a knitter myself and always planned to make an aran clan sweater for my husband and maybe one for each of my boys, and oops, now their girls. Well, it doesn't look like I'll live long enough to do all that, so I probably will soon be ordering a kit for my husband and sweaters for the rest. I hope that this will be sooner rather than later as it's on my bucket list. Karen Murphy

I was surprised not to find my surname on this site! It's quite common and I've been to Ireland and have even seen businesses with this name. In it's most original form, it was once O'Laochda (which means a hero). That name is distinguished from O'Lathaigh which is anglicized as Lahy. It's most commonly found in south-west Munster, and also the counties of Tipperary and Cork.
