Name: Kristin   Email: AK_Krotz@earthlink.net   Country: United States Date Added: Tuesday 03 January, 2006
I am related to the McGinley Clan of Glencolmbcille Co. Donegal on my Great-Grandmother's side and to the Gallaghers of Ballycashel Co. Donegal on my Great-Grandfather's side. I found the Gallagher pattern on this website; however, I have not had any luck finding the McGinley pattern or crest. McGinley is a very popular name in the remote area of Glencolumbcille. Roger and Annie McGinley of Port were my Great-Great-Parents and Rockwell Kent's famous painting of "Annie McGinely" is surely one of ours! If you can help please email me. Slainte! Kristin

I came upon your site while looking for irish plaques.I enjoyed reading the history of the irish nams but found mine to be included with kane and a few others. Does Kean not have its own place and meaning? It seems whenever I do a search, I encounter the same response and was just wondering about finding out more about my name. From what I've been told, our name was originally McKeane. The " Mc" was dropped at some point and the name was then just Keane.Somewhere the e was then also dropped. You have a great web site. Thanks for the info it gave.

My Uncles have searched through the records both in Ireland and Scotland and found that there are three family crests over a period of nearly two mileniums. The ancient Gaelic spelling both in Ireland and Scotland are written the same. This Gaelic spelling is of the clan that lived in Ireland and Scotland "Mac'Aoidh," meaning "Son of Fire." I am excited to see that Aran has the Magee clan sweater. Great news.

I've just found this web site and I very happy to do so. I'm a bit disappointed though as I do not see my maiden name listed as an Irish family name. It translates to 'servant of Mary' (the mother of God) or "Gilmore" I was born in County Down and lived about 1-2 miles from Movilla. My families history was from that part of Ireland for over a thousand years. Can you help me? Other ancestry names are Keville, Caldwell and MacNamara.

Hello! My maternal grandfather was a Kelly, living in Southwestern Ontario, and having been born here to second generation Kellys. He farmed in Blyth, Ontario. I recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, and because her father has a bit of Irish ancestry as well, we gave her a beautiful Irish name, Brigid. When expecting her, I took up knitting, and I love the history of these aran sweaters. Canada is such a 'new' country, and I love the learning about the history of Ireland, especially relating to pagan or gaelic culture.

I love this website and I am so glad that it is here. My maiden name is O'Neal and my grandfather has researched our family ancestry. He was very proud to be an O'Neal and this pride was carried on to my father, my brother and myself. I always love to learn more about my ancestry. If there are anymore O'Neals out there, I'd love to hear from you.
