Your website is lovely. I treasure my Irish sweaters. I have five, all handknitted in Ireland but purchased at T.J. Maxx. My family name is McGovern but did not see it on the list, is it a version of another name ? I grew up in Woodside, a town in Queens, NY. I always thought it was the "little Ireland" of NY. Every other child in my grammer school (St. Sebastian's) was Irish. In fact I noticed many of their names on your list. I love Irish music and films. I would love to purchase sweaters or patterns once I know which one represents my family name. Never been to Ireland but it's on my "bucket list".

My husband & I plan to make traveling to Ireland next May, 2009. This has been a lifelong dream. My husband Robert Grantsynn’s Maternal Grandmother was Katie Cavanaugh. I see you have a Aran sweater for this heritage. My maiden name is Shannon. I know you have a city & river named Shannon but I didn't see a clan named Shannon. Could it be from clan of Sheehan or Shee?? Would like to know. Thank you. Julia Shannon Grantsynn

Since my wife & I visited the Aran Islands three years ago I've regreted that I didn't get a clanaran sweater. Recently my wife started knitting again (grandchildren). I asked her if she would knit me a clan sweater. "Get the pattern!", she said. Google is great. Found this website and ordered the FitzGerald kit. My fraternal grandmother, who raised me was a FitzGerald. Her grandfather was born in Ireland. Soon I will have a clan sweater made by my wife. Who couldask for more? I told her after that she could knit the O'Donnell clan sweater for me, in honor of my maternal grandfather (who I was named after) whose grandfather was born in Ireland. Thanks for the great website and making it possible to fulfill a past desire.

I visited your shop in Killarney (we made it to Doolin but the weather was too rough to visit the Aran Islands) and was able to purchase my clan sweater (Kelley) as well as two jumpers for my daughters. We absolutely love them and wear them as often as we can. Until I found your site I didn't know that anyone even made the clan knits anymore. Thank you for continuing this important part of Irish heritage. Jody Halsted www.havekidwilltravel.com

Thank you for a fine, informative website. I have an Aran handknit, purchased in Ardara, Donegal, twenty--five years ago. I've no idea as to its family pattern, if indeed it has one. Diamonds filled with moss in the middle, a border, then honey comb are the front and back. One thing is certain; it's just the ticket for Maine weather most seasons of the year.

I have enjoyed this website immensely. My husband has strong Irish roots thru his ancestry. In fact, we live in the province of Newfoundland which is unique in the fact that 75 percent of this island (NL being an island of course) is Irish ancestry. My own family has Irish roots via my grandmother being an Irish woman. I have really enjoyed reading all the history associated with the many familiar names in my life. Thank you for such a wonder site.

My Grandmother Came on the Orphan Train from NY to Iowa sometime around 1885 after the June 30th 1885 censue in Iowa and before Oct. 1890. Then she and 3 other boys came together on the Orphan Train and where Adopted/Raised by two Shea, O'Shea families in Volga, Clayton county, Iowa. Edward and Mary Shea and his father William Shea in Sherry Township, Iowa. My Grandmother known as Bessie from the Orphan Train said her parents where Irish. Her father is from Nothern Ireland, Potatoe Land. Through the years of trying to do research on her Family Tree. I ran across the 1925 Census showing up her father as Michael Vernon, and mother unknown. She also told me that she had a brother named Michael. I haven't been able to find anything else on the Vernon Family from Ireland, or what city, county they came from in Northern Ireland. I am lately collection Irish items for my apartment, and want clothing to wear. Even Knit or Crochet.
