| I'm Captain Larry Gross, recently moved from Key West, FL to Ireland, WV. Ancestry is half Irish and half German. The Irish side are Cavenaugh, Clark and Sullivan. Ancestry includes a 4 or 5 generation back grandfather, Captain John Cavenaugh who he and his brother left Wexford to fight in the battle of Derry. His brother got killed and he then settled in Donegal, becoming a sea captain. Modern DNA has traced 2 of my aunts and 3 first cousins to a King Cavenaugh who ruled the area of Wexford around the year 900 A.D. |

My family name is McGovern but did not see it on the list, is it a version of another name ? I grew up in Woodside, a town in Queens, NY. I always thought it was the "little Ireland" of NY. | Since my wife & I visited the Aran Islands three years ago I've regreted that I didn't get a clanaran sweater. Recently my wife started knitting again (grandchildren). I asked her if she would knit me a clan sweater. "Get the pattern!", she said. Google is great. Found this website and ordered the FitzGerald kit. My fraternal grandmother, who raised me was a FitzGerald. Her grandfather was born in Ireland. Soon I will have a clan sweater made by my wife. Who couldask for more?
I told her after that she could knit the O'Donnell clan sweater for me, in honor of my maternal grandfather (who I was named after) whose grandfather was born in Ireland.

| I have enjoyed this website immensely. My husband has strong Irish roots thru his ancestry. In fact, we live in the province of Newfoundland which is unique in the fact that 75 percent of this island (NL being an island of course) is Irish ancestry. My own family has Irish roots via my grandmother being an Irish woman. I have really enjoyed reading all the history associated with the many familiar names in my life.
