If you have McAtee or an original underived clan name - I would like to know it and commemorate it with one of your beautiful Clanaran sweaters. My mum's family were always proud of their Irish roots - as are all of us 3rd, 4th, 5th generation Irish-Americans. Am interested in tracing our Irish ancestry.

I was surprised not to find my surname on this site! It's quite common and I've been to Ireland and have even seen businesses with this name. In it's most original form, it was once O'Laochda (which means a hero). That name is distinguished from O'Lathaigh which is anglicized as Lahy. It's most commonly found in south-west Munster, and also the counties of Tipperary and Cork.

I married into the McCarter name. I knit and would love to make an aran sweater for him, but he hasn't liked any of the patterns I've picked out. I happened upon this site and he was jacked to the moon. Said he would love to have one like these. My only problem is that we can't seem to find his familial name or crest. He told me that his crest has a cross in it. Would his name be a SUB group of a larger family? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Anin Sikwa Kin! everybody out there just wanted to say that I think this is a great site . I am still waiting to see my little lucky leprachaun sighting. I am of Aboriginal descent, I am a 100% Saulteaux Indian from a province called Saskatchewan, try saying that really fast 10 times.Just wanted to share something with the Irishman and women of the world. We have "LITTLE PEOPLE" in our culture as well.although not everyone can see them for they are very sacred and the helpers of Mother Earth. Well thats all I have to say 4 now. To everyone reading this I would like to wish you an Old Irish saying " May the sun always be shining on your back, and may all your troubles be little ones!

Last christmas I received a pattern and wool from my brother and sister in law. I have recently finished my sweater and of all the crafting and knitting projects over the years ( and there have been alot) I am most pleased with my beautiful Aran sweater. I did email you folks looking to adapt the pattern into a cardigan. You were not able to offer that service so it challenged me to do it myself. I was able to easily adapt it. Thank you for a fun great project. Do you offer pattern sized for children.

My grandmother (Catherine Fahey) is from Galway. Grandfather (James Twomey) is from Cork. On my fifth birthday my grandmother gave me an Irish Cable knit sweater she knitted herself. It was beautiful. I have not had one since then. In three years I will make a trip to the Aran Islands for my second sweater. It will be my present to me on my 65th birthday. Of course I will visit both counties of my heritage. I want to take in as much of Ireland as I can. I found a few places to stay while in Galway (March Cottage and the Store). If you know of any others please let me know. Thank you.

I found a brilliant bargain on a half-zip sweater and bought it. The winters are cold in Maine and fuel is dear. The sweater, I suspect, will give me a return on my money before winter's end. Daniel Beegan
