Do you have a booklet that shows how to make the stitces? I am so envious of all the people that I see on your website who are accomplised aran knitters! This is a wonderful website. Thank you. |

| HI TO ALL,
I am looking for a relative in a hay stack. He was my great-grandfather and his name was James Curran. If anyone can tell me how to search the Ellis Island immigration lists, that would be a God send. I know he lived in San Francisco, and married twice. He died shortly after my mothers' birth in Redwood City, California USA
where they lived on Clinton St. That is all I know, other than he was Catholic. Any help would be appreciated. Did the Curran's all come from Aran or Donegal? The sweaters are wonderful, this craft must not be allowed to die out. I knit, if anyone wants to pass it onto me, rather than let it fade away. Well, thank you so much for your consideration to this plea. I just learned that a family name we all thought was Irish, was changed so badly at Ellis island that it went from Danish to Irish, because the intake person at Ellis couldn't understand the real name, so he spelled it all wrong!! God Bless Us All, on the hunt.

| Hi Folks, I found your site when my wife asked me about tartan sweaters. I understand from my now deceased grand parents and parents that my surname Vance is of Irish origin. In fact on one of my genealogy documents that one of my Dad's cousins prepared, I noted an Alexander Vance from the County of Fermangh, in Ireland (Northern Ireland, I think). This would have been in the 1800's, I think.
I did not find a Clan for Vance, and was wondering if you could assist in this.
Many thanks in advance for your help in this.

(we're from Wisconsin) I promised her a few pictures of miniature cows that a friend of mine raises in Maine. If possibole I'd like to chat with Maurren and find out how to get these pictures to her. Also, I wouldn't mind being her source for Wisconsin cheese.

| I was looking for a clan association for SWIFT, but since I can't find it, I am tempted to order an O'Connor for my daughter's Christmas gift, since her godfather was Patrick Laurence O'Connor (R.I.P.). Her father's ancestors (Swift) came from Ireland in the 1800's, and settled in South Dakota. That's all the information I have on them, because no one can find the information a great aunt had dug up during her ifetime, without starting the research over from square one. We do know the family didn't descend from Jonathan Swift, because he died without progeny, though my husband (R.I.P.) bore a striking resemblance to his portrait. Your Aran sweaters are awesome! I didn't know there was a meaning to the stitch designs until I found this site. I am also looking for a reference to PARKER. Margaret and George Parker emigrated from County Cork sometime in the early part of the 20th century, and settled in western New York State.. They're not related to me, but Maggie Parker was my "extra grandmother," as she was to every child in the village when I was little. I'd appreciate information on their roots: They were special people to me. |

| I am so pleased at the resources I have found regarding my irish heratige. My lineage dates back to Ireland, Scotland, Germany, and England. As well as the Cherokee Nation. I have people all the time telling me that I've got to be more Irish than what I believe and I'm coming to realize that it might be true. My family's name originated in Ireland, although how far back I don't know. I am the last surviving heiress to the Hayes family name and I will be marrying into another Irish originated family, the McCulloughs. I hope to find answers as to who I am related to that was Irish and just how much I am soon. Thanks for all the great help your site provides.
Sincerely,
Casey A. Hayes |

| Both greatgrand parents immigrated from Ireland in addition to my great-great grandfather. I have no idea where they were located in Ireland. My greatgrand mother's maiden name was also DeVine (no relation) prior to marrying my greatgrand father. She was born on the ship coming over. Her name was Mary and his name was William Peter. Her family settled in Alton, Illinois and he and his father settled in St. Louis, MO. They obtained employement with Mr. Henry Shaw (Shaw's Botanical Gardens) on the boat during their travel to America. Would appreciate any information anyone could forward to me. Thanks. |

| My grandfather's last name was O'Cullinane but changed to a different spelling when he came to the states in 1929. Would his last name be a part of the Collin clan? By the way, I love the website!! |

| I am extremely suprised you do not have the O'Dowd family in your listings as it is a most ancient name in Sligo and Mayo in Gaelic it is O'Dubhda.

| Query: my former middle name, Coppinger, is from Cork. I've been there and found in the library a book on the subject of the Coppingers, some of whom were really great people, some were rotten (as in most families), and one was a really valient mayor way back, I believe during some persecution or another. (It's been a really long time since I was there.) Have you any information about this name? Also, in my backgroound is the name "Biggins" which I don't find in your lists either. I would love to know its derivation and something about it. Can you help?

| Talofa (Hello),
I am trying to get in contact with Sheena O'Brien (sheena2631@aol.com) in relation to her family history as she posted on this site that she is a descendent of Jack O'Brien. I am aware of the Tuvaluan (Ellice Island) history regarding her ancestor Jack O'Brien and am wishing to get in contact with her to discuss more. As she has posted a message on this site, this appears the only way of getting in contact with her as her email address bounces.
If anyone else is descended from Jack O'Brien who lived in Tuvalu (formally the Ellice Islands South Pacific) or is able to get me in contact with her, I would much appreciate the help.
Sorry for posting a message off topic.
Regards,
