I have found and eventually plan to purchase the kits for O'Neill (my maiden name), Meagher (My mother-in-law's maiden name) and McKenna (my sister's married name). However, I am trying to find the clan Garrigan, which is my mother's maiden name. I would truly like to make her a clan sweater from her own clan, so that hers will be different from Dad's. Any ideas? Thanks you.

I was looking for the names Hanrahan and Sharp, but didn't find them on your list. I did, however, find Nolan. My great, great grandmother Mary Nolan came to US when she was 16. We think she was from Co.Cork or Tipperary. She married Edward Hanrahan in either NJ or NY and moved with him to Ohio. I have some more info about them, but if anyone out there knows about them, I'd love to hear from you! Any cousins across the pond?

I would like to know more on our family history I have done a lot, we hail from the county of Armagh. From James and Richard Humphries, from Farnaloy and Keady in Armagh and were land owners in Ireland They also took land in County Cavan, Where they did resided in the Ballyhaise House. In addition, I have found that they were Baron’s of some sort from far back as the seventeenth century. Would like to know more about the family names and were they lived and if there are still Humphries living in Ireland at this time, Would like to talk and maybe go back to Ireland and maybe to stay.

Dear all, I have been reading up on aran sweaters. Over the years I have knit numerous ones for family and knit and crocheted afghans in aran designs. Only today did I discover there are clan designs and I find that most interesting. Usually i would get family to pick the designs they liked and incorporate them into the sweater pattern. Thank you for the info. My mother was an O'Callaghan, born in Limerick of a Cork family while her mother was a Keane from N.Kerry. Again, thanks for an interesting 'journey' into knitting history, Mary.

Great website. I forwarded it to my mother-in-law, who's grandmother was Callahan. I am constantly gathering info about mine and my husbands ancestry so that our children will have a great understanding of all the wonderful, diverse, and rich cultures that they represent. The information here was helpful. Thanks!

I am the great-granddaughter of DAVID O'SULLIVAN. DAVID, as to what I was told by older relatives Orginally he came from NYACK, NY he married a African American woman named Mary Freeman, they moved from Nyack in the 1900's toward Paterson, NJ then from there to West Orange, NJ then finally to Orange , NJ where they had two daughters named Margaret and Ethel and a son named Clifford. David removed the "O" from his name and just used SULLIVAN. My grandmother was Margaret. Margaret married John Toliver and Ethel Married Leonard Johnson both men were African American. I grew up with very light skin and very straight hair, I always would ask my mother(Margaret's daughter) WHY AM I SO LIGHT & WHY IS MY HAIR SO DIFFERENT? I would never get the corret answer, it was like it was a secret, I guess back then it was. I always thought my family orginated from the south, but I was told we migrated from NYACK, NY and that the women married southern men. I was looking to find out if anyone from back then remember any O"SULLIVANS from that area, perhaps they could be relatives that I have longed to find. I just want to know my history and I have my own family now and they ask questions that I want to give them answers to and not be like my past parents and relatives, who were very closed mouth about the migrating of the races. This is AMERICA, WE ALL HAVE A MIXTURE OF ONE THING OR ANOTHER WITHIN US!! GOD BLESS!! & THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME! :)

My great great grand father Mathews migrated to Bloomington, Indiana USA in about 1849. He had two children. I know his daughter was 16 years old in 1859 when president Lincoln was on the campain trail. She saw him in Bloomington , IN on the back of a train. I know her daughter ( my grand mother) was named Leota and she married a man from West Verginia named Wellington Dean Knapp around the first decade of the 20th century. They had five children: James (Jay) born 1912, a daughter, I don't know her name, that died in the 1950s, Bettie Jane born 1920, John (jack) born 1924s, and Barbara Joanne (Jo) born 1926. If any of this sounds familiar I would love to hear from you at jimiandjen@insightbb.com. Please NO ADVERTISMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
