How interesting to learn about the history of the Aran knits, Gaelic names and how names today are derived from the Irish !! I love it. My mother in law , Letitia, brought me an Aran knit sweater about 30 years ago from her trip to Ireland, and I still have it today and wear it on St. Patricks Day. My husband and I would like to go to Ireland while we still can travel. His grandfather William Duggan came from there, and there still are cousins living there. Thanks you for your informative web site.

I was looking for at least one of the many family names but cannot find exact matches. My family is from Inishmaan and my Da can trace back approx 900 years. My family names include: FOLAN, MULKERRIN, CONCANNON, O'FAHERTY (or possibly O'Flaherty which I did find.) They were fisherman so I presumed they would have/need their family pattern. Great site! Irish in San Francisco

On June 3,2007, I bought a sweater for my granddaughter at the Aran Sweater Market in Killarney. However, although the body of the sweater fits, the sleeves are too short and she won't be using it unti the coming winter when she would probably have grown a little more. Can I return it to you and get a bigger size? Would you need the original receipt or would a copy do? I thank you for your help as I really love the sweater. An early response would be greatly appreciated. Gloria Wong

I am not Irish and i'm not looking for my family name, either. I am a teacher of English in this remote country named Chile, South America. I love knitting and I was looking for new patterns in Aran style for my grandaughter and so, I discovered this excellent page. I have always admired them and I have knitted many sweaters and cardigans, I really love them. .Besides, I am always looking for different items to read in English ,your history and the History of the Clans are very interesting . Landscapes are really amazing, too. Best wishes and regards from this part of the world.

I've been trying to find out about my Irish heritage and found a little help here as far as uniqueness of sweaters for each clan of which later on I may order. It's hard to find out exactly where in Ireland my greatgrandfather came from because records are sketchy as far as immigration to the US goes. TYou have a great site and hopefully you'll expand it in the future to include a synopsis of some of the major clans or links from your web site that does the same.

Is there anybody out there that can give me any information about my grandmother Mary (McDonough) Flaherty? From what I can gather she emigrated from Ireland when she was 21 (1925?) and worked as a domestic before marrying Thomas in Woburn, MA. Thomas, Jr. (deceased), Mary, my father James, Helen and Anna are their children, but as they are spread all over the US, and I am the only Flaherty left with the name, and my father has been married three times, this seems like a good time to gather some historical facts, or even stories that have been repeated over the years about my clan, it is said, which was once so feared that there was a plea over the entrance to Galway City that supposedly read "From the ferocious O'Flaherties, dear Lord defend us!" As I said, any information, no matter how wild or far-fetched would be greatly appreciated and if there is anything of a sensitive nature that one doesn't feel like sharing in the guestbook, they can e-me at my home e-mail address, posted above. Thanks and Happy St. Patrick's Day tomorrow! Some say our name is English, but want to dispute that. Our family was associated with the McGately family. There was a chief justice by the of Keightly sent to Ireland 1692, as a judge. His name was used as a synonym of McGately. Thank you for your website.

My family has family that came from Ireland in the 1600's. His name was William Talbott (Tabbott perhaps) born 1572 in Carron, Laraghbryan, Kildare Ireland. His father was Patrick Talbot from Robertstown, Meath Co. Ireland Her name was Allison Netterville, born 1586, in Castletown, Caslteton Meath Co. Ireland. I am curious as to which clan this would be. I know that this is a long way back, but I am curious about the towns also. Are they still there or spelled differently than I have. My father is elderly (84) and wants to know also.

Grandmothers Parents John Harrison & Deborah (Hodgin) Harrison emigrated to Canada from Norther Ireland in 1824. John was born on August 17,1804 in Armagh County and Deborah in 1805 at Portadown, Armagh County, Northern Ireland. Do you know of any family history? Was there a family Crest? Good day, I am attempting to locate relatives and history of my Grandparents from Ireland, Scotland and Germany. Grandmothers name is Hanley and her parents hail from County Cork though I do not know the exact town. Her father was from Edinburgh in Scotland and Grandfather was from Baden Baden, Germany. MY brother, Barry and I are planning a trip to Ireland this May to "see our roots". We are so very excited about this. My husband passed away three months ago so this has lifted my spirits considerably and given me something to look forward to. Wondering whether to purchase a sweater from this web site or buy one in Ireland. Karin O'Malley Jackoboice Fairlawn, Ohio, USA
